1, '02: The Bulldogs
are back and it was not Tulsa Time after 2 chukkers of great
polo. Tulsa (Southern Hills) was there for brunch, but the Dogs
always eat the scraps and they were in a hurry after brunch yesterday.
As 2 pretty girls (Dayelle Bradley and Jessica Bailey), a Bullet
(Bob Bradley) and a Surfer (Diego Cossio) got on a wave and rode
the big one home. There is no doubt the Dogs are back as they
have been a little slow lately. But they were in a hurry to
get back to the house as they trailed 4-1 and then 6-4. The
Bulldogs then caught a wave and never turned back. The Canadian
Rose (Dayelle Bradley) and Bullet Bob still have that love connection
with winning. They can always bring such a well built #1 to
the show. Dayelle could be a "10" and the Surfer will
definitely hang 10 this Spring on the Pacific Coast. Great run
for the Tulsa Time Boys. Seth Herndon just keeps on going and
going . . . Mr. Ever Ready. Tim Rudy is still gathering and Eric
and the Rookie (Joe Stuart) have nothing to feel bad about.
It's just a little Dog Bite. It was a great day for polo and
the fitting end to a great season. Even if there was no grass,
we will see you next year and the pasture will be greener.
See ya.

March 30, '02:
They come to play and
they will. The Bulldogs will be in high gear and so will Southern
Hills. As all these years have not stopped Mr. Herndon. It
must be about 15 years ago he won the U.S. Open and now at the
senior level, he is duking it out in the 2002 Governor's Cup.
The trouble is they are looking at Bullet Bob and the Rose from
Canada, who will have some major jelf in the Surfer. There is
a new twinkle who is a very well put together filly named Jessica
Bailey. She will make the boys from Tulsa think it's Tulsa Time.
But Tim Rudy, Mr. Herndon and young Joe Stuart, will be there
for the show and the Dogs won't intimidate them. So, be there!
See ya at the party.
Steve Crowder.
March 27, 2002:
Fish Creek will enter
into 2003 the same way they came into 2002, undefeated in the
high-goal. It will be 1 month short of 2 years when the Big Macs
strap on their spurs again and begin to play for a 2-year winning
streak. Windsor's Four Flags were close to a Fish Fry, but as
I said before, it ain't easy to fry the those Fish Creek Boys
when the 2 Big Macs are there. It was so close it went into O/T.
but they took the money and won the Free airline tickets . "It
was the Lawman, Matt Ladin, who stepped up to the plate and helped
keep it in order" says Big Mac Man, Julio Z.
It was good to see the Lawman, Matt Ladin, come roaring back
and be a player at this level after his summer disaster. It was
a big surprise for the Macs to have the Law on their side now.
Maybe Fred Mannix
can use his ticket to see the Wolf Pack in action as they get
a real test on Thursday against a pair of 10-goalers and the
White Birch Team. A win will put them in the finals round. Hope
you all come to see them run.
See ya at the open.
March
22, 2002: Well the talking is done. Your either
off to the Governor's Cup or your history. They will go down
in polo history somewhere, but it's the Fish and the Governor
who will be on stage Sunday. The Big Mac's teams with Matt Laden
and Tomas Pieres to take on the four flags of Windsor. Melody
Ranch tried, but Santi had to play Julio and that was just the
way it is. The head Chef and the Waiter from Duende couldn't
cook the Fish and we could be looking at a 5 peat as the Big
Macs, Fred Mannix and Macho Man Julio Zavaleta, just seem to
own the high-goal for the last 14 months. No matter who they
put out there on the green g r a s s of Eldorado.
Well lets meet the
Skin Men, as no ladies made it this year. For the men from Fish
Creek you have the Chief of the crew and head Big Mac, FRED MANNIX,
who likes to go at mach speed and does making holes for the other
Big Mac , Macho Man Julio Zavaleta. Julio is the biggest stick
in the desert and they hit to mighty mouse the famous midget,
Tomas Pieres, who will run fast. They also have the new lawman,
Matt Ladin, who is a law man in school. It will be a tough team
to beat. The Fish are in danger of getting taken out of the water
as they face the four flags of Windsor, who must have one fisherman
on the Team. They've done it once, but it was for 6 chukkars.
Now its a seven minute timetable with a pot of gold on the end
and the flags have a big chance. They start at the back with
the Mexican Secretary of Defense, one tough Fernando Pilego.
He does not fish with a pole. Fernando uses his spurs. In front
of him is the British Captain, Malcom Borwick, who as in usual
English gentleman style is as tough as the turf he's. They have
an Argentine-California surfer, Diego Cossio, who just likes
to play polo and does it well. They all follow the only Yank
on the squad, the Governor, Pat Nesbitt, who will all day command
hit it and try to take it to goal in the Governor's style. I
think the Fish will get fried but F.M. may get sun burnt, but
rarely fried.
Come and see for
yourself and bring your hat.
See Ya at polo''s biggest day
In florida it was a dark day for the open but tommorow starts
the same old deal again 3 - 26 goal games as its showtime for
some and 2nd for others.
Governor's Cup 2002
March 20th, 2002:
All we talk about is
the Skins. Well they are the big stars, but it takes a lot of
stars to make light in the sky. The guys who are looking to the
desert from the sea have found a way to get there with these
stars. Alfonso Giannico and Graham
Bray come from the sea ports of Del Mar and Santa Barbara
and they are going to collide on Sunday in the Governor's
Cup.
There will be a
falling star for a while East or West or if you go by the California
road sign North or South. These 2 teams are both made up of players
from Gehache from Santa Barbara with an Officer on it, ambassador
Glen Holden or Gypsy from Del Mar with president Suzanne
Figi going for the silver.
It will be physical
as Glen Holden maybe 75 years old, but if you ever wanted to
go to a bad place take him. He has scared the hell out of most
people and mean people leave town when Glen Holden comes to town.
Suzanne would hit a truck with her Merc if she thought she was
right and then slap the truck driver and tell him she was right
and he would agree. This will be as good as the Skins Tournament
and you can go see them both. Its showdown and its so easy to
see.
--See You At Polo Sunday, March 17th, 2002
There was some polo
on Sunday and if you missed it, it was your loss . Well you missed
it, so read about it .
The Skins was there
and the skinning was done and the hides left are fitting for
a skin. From A to H it was this way. . .
Team A - Bad
Brad and the boys picked
on the cripples and did away with a very good chance for Major
Derek and his boys to go for the skins. They also were missing
the torpedo, Mariano Fassetta, from the Pampas as he has a major
medical problem with his eye (hit in the eye with a polo ball).
Pedro Arrellano did well as a fill in for Fassetta, but he never
carried the stick the way the 2nd best player in the desert has
done in the past. Stone Canyon and Bad Brad who took over at
# 2 and they are 2 out of 3 with him packing the duces. 2 - 4
{B}Tri Tech - Maybe they are like the tech stocks
not solid yet for the upswing they got caught by the Governor,
Pat Nesbitt of Windsor Capital, and the four flags were flying
as they blew by the Tech's to leave Tri Tech at 2 - 4
{C} Duende took up a new life again on Sunday
as the cook Michael Hakan put out the fires and the Waiter delivered
as the split the weekend but have one more chance and its Fishy
but they stand 50 /50 - 3 - 3
{D} Melody Ranch
was on the pile. Macho
Man still makes stew out of Santi and it was stirred again as
they were rolled by the Mac attack, Fred Mannix and Julio Z.
Continued on their 5 peat and Melody finishes for the weekend
at 4 - 2.
(E) Bulldogs are they waking? Well maybe they were
starting to bite this weekend and closing the gap taking Melody
to a cliff and getting nipped by Duende as the door closed on
them. But they have one more chance and its Friday. The Bulldogs
are currently 0 - 6
(F) Fish Creek
is still in the pond
and the hook has not been set. It was a treat as the Big Mac
and his boys had a old snack and it was with music, Santi with
a Melody. Fish Creek was there to fix the + column as usual and
they moved into a new place to be 4 - 2 with Duende left on the
plate.
(G) Indutech
- D.W. knows how to
get it done, but a real big problem came up even Deb couldn't
fix. They lost a Texas-sized tornado and he goes by the name
Fassetta. He has two tough Carp boys, but they needed the Torp
and he was in the cylinder today and so was Indutech. They are
now at 50/50 3 - 3
(H) Windsor Capital
had all 4 flags flying
this weekend as the British Captain came to the grounds with
a Kings style. He rallied the boys to hook up with the Governor
and got the Argie surfer on a wave and didn't look back. The
Mexican defense closed all doors and marched on to end the week
at 5 - 1. They are looking at a canyon to climb to skin the Fish.
Next Friday it's this way:
Windsor is looking at the wall, Stone Canyon
it has crumbled but not fallen. Be careful!
The Waiter and the
Chef (Duende) have to catch the Fish to serve it. And
that is a job. Fish Creek vs Duende.
The Dogs
are going to Tri Technical skills soon.
Indutech could play the drums, but not in Melody
notes as they would with a Torpedo. Otherwise I don't know.
See ya at polo if you do not come on Sunday don't come back till
next year.

Friday, March 15th, 2002
Its a very fast
sport often called the fastest team sport in the World. For sure
its exciting - thrilling and it's also a very dangerous sport.
It was dangerous yesterday as Mariano Fassetta found out when
a well hit ball was stopped by his head nearly taking an eye.
They say the fact he was wearing goggles saved his eye . . .
we hope. It's a who's who group on the injured list. . . 1-goaler
Abby Riggs and Daniel Fernandez have both been injured this season
and now 6-goaler Mariano Fassetta. Not a pleasant month, but
that's polo.
It was a windy Friday
and the games were still close as we go into the last chance
weekend. It was more of the same for Stone Canyon as they lost
to Fish Creek keeping the Fish in the trophy tank.
It was a silent
day for Chris Maloney's Tri Tech as Pedro Arellano filling in
for Mariano Fassetta and Indutech made it a minus for their column
in THE BATTLE OF THE TECHS. Tri tech 2 - 3 and Indutech 3 - 2
Duende has came
to a screeching halt after a fast start. They went down to the
Governor's boys and the Mexican Sectary of Defense went on the
offense and put a minus on their side. Duende 2 - 3. Windsor
4 - 1.
Bulldogs were still
bothering people as they made P.V.G. sweat a while as the took
Melody to the ropes, but lost on a trick play. Bulldogs 0 -5
,Melody 4 - 1 .
See ya at polo watch those ponies run down sunday lane.

the U.S. Open 2002
March 17th, 2002
News from the other side:
Florida was big on St. Patrick's Day Weekend. A boy named Cambiaso
came to West Palm Beach and left with a well-played ball game.
He took the Gold on Saturday. The Owls from Venezuela took home
the big one on Sunday as they passed the Coke, one over Coca
Cola by 1 .
The Wolf Pack is back and they
have gotten a little fat as they tied on an exhibition on Friday
and took an old fashion butt-kicking on Sunday. But its just
for fun as the real deal starts on Wednesday morning the same
time the U.S. Open starts. It ain't no Governor's Cup, but it
will do.
Come and see them r u n.
Sunday, March 10th, 2002
- The West is wild
and the East is getting set as the "Open" draws near.
They have no trophy. Someone stole it from the Hall of Fame along
with other polo history.
Thirteen year-old Julio Gracida
got his allowance on Sunday. As he was on the winning team for
the $50,000 Gold Cup. In the 26-Goal, it is a semi between Texas
Polo and Lechuza to see if they can drink a Coke next Sunday.
SEE YA AT POLO
--Steve Crowder. Monday, March 4th, 2002 -
It is finals time in
Florida and there is a little bit of the desert in all of them.
Over in Sarasota, Jamie Mirikitani has been a very lucky guy
this year. He has played in several tournaments and has won some
big ones.
Boca Raton has the Wolf Pack
waiting to shoot it out for the Sunshine League title and they
have Rob Roenisch there directing. In Palm Beach, two X-Desert
boys fought it out in the 22 Goal. Francisco Lanusse was left
back by Marcello Abiatti as the Goshen Team came back and won
the last big 22 before the Big Guns start smoking today, as it's
26 time in West Palm Beach.
