Polo Report -July 2002
|
July 29th,
'02:
Well it was # 2 day in
S.B. and the fur was flying from the start as Windsor Capital
beat up Antelope real bad. It didn't last much after
the first chukker as they were winning by 8 and won by 6 or so
to make a long weekend for Antelope. They are now minus 16 or
so, looking toward the P.C.O. (Pacific Coast Open). In game 2
it was Grants Farm greasing up the green machine and Hector
the Detector (Hector Galindo) making a monkey out of Dunde as
he scored about 10 and that was more than the boys in blue and
gold could do. Hector had a little help with a few more to win
by 4 after leading by 8 most of the way and letting the gold
have a few to many at the end. In the 3 p.m. it was Isla Carroll
coming up with the O.T. this Sunday and beating Piocho
for a 11 - 10 win and keep them in the Win column. Its going
to be a very tough Friday as we look at the standings for the
America's Cup Final :
| Division
(1) |
Division
(2) |
| Grants farm
1 & 1 at 0 |
Windsor
cap + 10 |
| Antelope
0 & 2 - 17 |
Isla Carrol
+ 9 |
| Piocho
0 & 2 - 3 |
Duende
- 2 |
Friday has G.F. >
IC, Ant. > Duende and W.C. > Piocho.
Its time to hit the big time.
Come and see those ponies run from 10 goalers to 0. They rock.
See Ya. --Steve Crowder
July 26th, '02: Division 2 beat division 1 by a basket full
as it was Duende getting by Piocho Ranch as Memo and Sapo never
seemed to get rockin. Sergio played well and T.B. (Tom Barrack)
was not ready. They will improve by next game, but they better
as Isla Carrol with big John Goodman in the saddle scored 4 goals
and they absolutely skinned and cooked the Antelope to a butt
whipping by 9. Grants Farm, the 1st cup champions, were reading
their press releases 1 day to long as Windsor behind by 1 in
the 6th won by 4 in a very good game with speed to burn. It was
a sad day for K.K. (Kris Kampsen) the # 2 of G.F. as a trusted
partner had a heart attack in the 3rd and Francisco Lanusse lost
for at least a while a new and tough partner to a severe leg
injury.
Well at day 1 div 1 is:
| Div.
1 |
Div. 2 |
| Piocho
-2 |
Duende + 2 |
| Anetlope
-9 |
Isla Carrol +
9 |
| Grants
Farm - 4 |
Windsor + 4 |
Sunday should be fun as at
11 am its Windsor Vs Antelope and 1 pm its Duende and Grants
Farm and out at 3 will be Dad with Memo Gracida on Piocho vs
son Julio with Isla Carrol. It should be a barn burner watch
Mimi and see who she cheers for?
Take a break from soccer in
San Diego and come see us.
In Canada its the 10 goal heating
up as Fish Creek and Washington Lettuce seem to be headed back
to the finals and maybe GEORGE DILL will buy Fred M. some sand
for his perfect looking fields.
See Ya. --Steve Crowder
July 25, '02: Well
we get to see them all Friday. As all 6 teams come to the plate
as the America Cup starts at high - noon .It is Piocho Ranch
with T-Tom Barrack hits the field with Sapo Caset and Mr. Gracida
and Sergio Silvester. They will start with a dance with Dunde
and it may not be pretty. Then at 2 p.m its Isla Carrol with
big John in town and they take on Antelope who hopefully have
found some speed or they will be target practice for the Texans
even with the help of the USPA to raise Julio at 4 . It's Grants
Farm and Windsor Cap trying to support the USPA sponsored Argentine
players as they bring a young man named Pablo to the field not
Alan or Mat wrong name and passport. I would be willing to buy
tapes of the Skene cup finals for all the anti-American officials
and maybe they could enjoy an all American finals with mostly
all American horses and watch how well behaved the players were
and how the crowd loved the game. I will even pay the postage.
See ya. Steve Crowder
July 25th, '02: Its finals time from coast to coast. It was
silver time in San Diego and it was ladies day. The girls on
Madison-Gypsy were definitely on a roll as they showed
G.B. (Graham Bray) and the Palomino (Jason Crowder)
the way to the trophy table. Madison-Gypsy blew by Norma
Owen and Fat Boy (Georges Daou) to win by 4. Madison-Gypsy
has finished the first 1/2 of the season with a split with Voyager
and their Calif. - Canada connection winning all 4 tournaments
(between the two teams) and leaving Norma's Team with the future.
Well in Santa Barbara it was a bonafide clean, fast & no
whining title fight as big Andy Busch was the big burrito.
He won it all with a lighting like play in an all American finals
to win 90 seconds into overtime to beat Isla Carroll and
win the Skene Cup in a brilliant game. Super kid Julio Gracida
showed his stuff with some great plays and Peter Ganibi from
downtown Carpinteria was on a mission. They just missed the first
big one in S.B. the U.S.P.A. showed they are wrong as 4 pros
were not good enough as Peter was taking John Goodman's place
and doing a good job. But it was the Missouri state making a
show me statement and letting Ms. Abby Riggs take on the
10-goaler and show its a peoples game not a mans game. She was
backed up well with the big bird and Hector the detector Galindo
and Andy the dandy Busch who was on the spot all day long and
shared some fantastic moves to see his gang on the victory platform.
It was a great all American finals and 3 players under 20 so
we still have a chance with a U.S. passport as the Southern connection
was represented with being the 3rd man in the stands.
The winning cup was won by
Antelope as they slid by the Duende in a horrible
exhibition of polo which made the finals all the better.
The Americas Cup starts this Friday with a new team up and running
Piocho Ranch joining the other 5 and a switch which is sad as
the handicap committee continues to support anyone but the Americans
as usual. This has caused young and improving Alan Martinez to
get raised to 4 goals and get fired, so they could give that
job to another Argentine. Its great to pay your U.S.P.A dues
all your polo life and get buried because your improving. That
is not allowed if you have a U.S. passport. If your not a patron
say your from wherever. Your not a horse you cannot improve or
you will not be in the race sad facts of U.S polo.
Anyway come to Santa Barbara and see Sunday's polo as soccer
takes over in S.D. for a while and where I hope they plant grass
soon.
Americas Cup draw is everybody in 1 bracket plays the other bracket.
Backet (A) Bracket (b)
Piocho Duende
Antelope Isla Carroll
Grants Farm Windsor Capital
Friday is straight across
Sunday is . . .
11 a.m. Antelope vs Windsor Cap
1 p.m. Grants Farm vs Duende
3 p.m. Piocho vs Isla Carroll
See ya.
July 25th, '02:
The Grooms Race and Calcutta was a super feature on Saturday
during the 34-Goal exhibition match in Santa Barbara. It was
very entertaining to the crowd as bucking horses, jumping horses
and scared horses and nervous grooms found themselves on the
main stage for a while. It was great and should be some
great pictures as Long Beach with Diego and partner took
home the big pot of 500 u.s. dollars and Arturo from Antelope
doing much better than his polo team showing its not his fault
their not in front. Vicente, the big favorite, almost winning
on his own finishing 3rd for Windsor Cap. It was a great idea
as Bud Linfoot came up with idea to have it all right in front
of grandstands where the crowd really got into it. We need more
of these try them, you will love it so will your fans.

Groom's Race.

July
20, '02: 34-Goal Polo Report . . . The real high goal was played today as Remax
with a powerful group of Mariano Gonzalez, Hector
Galindo, Mike Azzaro and Santiago Trotz ran into a
travel problem with Robinson Travel with Pancho Bensadon,
Adam Snow, Memo Gracida and Owen Rinehart (O.R). Robinson
Travel showed what its like to have a takeoff canceled. They
rolled by and won by 2 and it was just perfect as it showed the
touch of winning is a hit, a back and a goal is much faster than
a tap and a twitle as O.R. showed touches of the former 10-goaler
he was. O.R. is 43 and was the 2nd fastest player on the field.
You may have missed the high
goal, but it's finals time in San Diego and Santa Barbara and
you can't see a winner if you ain't there.
See ya. -- Steve Crowder
July 20th, '02: In the U.S.A. it was semi-final time in CA.
& MA. In England it was also semi-time, but in Canada it
was the finals. The old-timers drubbing Big Mac Fred Mannix
(F.M.) and three young kids as Macho Man (Julio Zavaleta)
showed why he is still at least 2 goals better than the boys
and hard riding Christine Hardwick. Mom and Pop Roenisch and
the Iceberg, as in lettuce king Big George Dill, walked
off with the title last Thursday night. Macho Man (Julio Zavaleta)
led them down victory lane.
In the Southern Ca. it was
the girls Madison-Gypsy (Lisa Bosstick and Suzanne Figi) getting
revenge on Silent Chris Maloney and Pop as Graham Bray
and the Palamino (Jason Crowder) helped the Girls drub
the Canada-Ca. connection (Voyager) and Gaston Von Wernich
and the gang took the heat from Fat - boy George Daou
and sent his hot taco to the finals with Scott Gundlach
& Topo Mendez. Be there come 3 PM on Sunday afternoon.
In the mid-coast it was semi-times
in S.B. and it was the Out-of-Towners taking over field 1 at
3 p.m. Sunday as the Americas Cup will feature no Ca. teams.
Houston-based Isla Carol did a tap dance on Antelope
and won by 3. Grants Farm took out Duende easy
by 3 as the show me state team found a done Duende for
supper at 5 p.m. It is the red and black from the Lone star state
(Isla Carol) vs. the show me state (Grants Farm) and they better
be ready as there is more than 1 star on this team as Pete
Ganibi continues to make us wonder where his passport is
from? Have to ask the U.S.P.A.
See you at the finals wherever
you may be. Its Gold Cup time in the U.K. and it's the
Black Bears vs Emerging. In Boston old California boy Gonzalo
Von Wernich tries to win the big one.
Be There! -- Steve Crowder
July
20th, '02: Tomorrow
is the finals of the Robert Skene Cup and guess what?
There are no South Americans playing. Maybe one will be the 3rd
man to be part of the polo. It's fun to see Isla Carol
with the young American stars
Isla Carol (I.C.)
Peter Ganibi- California bred and raised at 20
Yrs. old
Owen Rinehart - the Virginian and 1 of 3 playing
ex U.S.10 goalers.
Mike Azzaro - is 10 goals
Julio Gracida - 14 yrs.old and going nowhere but up.
Grants Farm:
Abby Riggs - 1 goal and the only woman
Kris Kampsen - he is a touch away from being a star
all of 19 yrs old.
Hector Galindo - the flying Galindo watch those
ponies run fast.
Andy Busch - the highest rated amateur polo player in
the U.S.
. . . and they will be running
from 3 to 4.30 July 21, 02.
|
July 14, '02: It
ain't no thriller as the only game in the Robert Skene (Santa
Barbara Polo Club) was played today, Sunday. It just goes a little
further in showing the daftness of the handicap group as the
2 players raised 2 goals were on the field today and were easily
outplayed by 2 one-goal players Peter Ganibi and the Governor
Pat Nesbitt.
The only reason it was these
two players was they were the only ones under their handicaps.
The score was 12 to 9 and that's with the new handicap. It cost
one his job and maybe not both by winning, at least one had a
chance. It is not fair. Alan Martinez will probably never
get to play high-goal polo, or at least not for a long while
at 4 goals. He is not a patron and he will have a hard time paying
for college with no job, but its not the handicap people's problem.
They work for free. (as they should!)
Anyway, it was Isla Carrol
running over 22-goal Windsor by 3. Isla Carrol was always
in control and got a 1 goal to start. The Governor played well.
I hope he has a foreign passport. M.A. (Mike Azzaro) and
Owen Reinehart controlled the center and most everything
else. Only a late rally helped Windsor be known as a competitor.
When M..A. gets on his skinny bay you know the party is over.
Santa Barbara's Peter Ganibi
had an outstanding game, but don't worry he has a English
passport made in Mexico. He has played here before. Alan played
well for a 2-goaler but got fired as a 4-goaler.
Down South at the surf and turf San Diego Polo Club, it was Silent
Chris Maloney and Pop getting by the ladies and proving
the Men's Club is still dominant in polo at times. As they won
their 2nd of 3 tournaments played thus far. The Canadian connection
of Steve Dalton & Mike Jordan, the Calgary
Boys, are putting a sign on Silent Chris with a big +. Friday
it all starts over in both areas of Southern Calif. so come on
by and watch those ponies run.
See ya out there. --Steve Crowder
July 14th, '02: Well it's July and the big boys and girls are
back in town. You have the best woman player in the world here,
Sunny Hale, and she will be carrying the Antelope
colors this year along with the flash Pancho Bensadon ,
Santiago
Trotz and the hard hitting patron Geoff Palmer.
A new team in the black and red but one of the top contenders
in polo's big time anywhere is Isla Carrol. They come
from Houston with Big John Goodman who has no problem
mixing it up with the big boys. He has a couple of U.S. Opens
and Gold Cups on his wall already. He has a nice staff of Owen
Rinehart who has won 7 of the last 9 cups in the high-goal
in Santa Barbara and Mike
Azzaro the only full blooded USA 10 and the whiz kid
Julio Gracida, who goes up in handicap just because he
is supposed to I guess. He is 14 yrs old.
The Duende shirts will
try to reverse their runner-up status from last year and suit
up 3 new faces as Trotz and M.G. find new homes. They have baby
face Francisco Lanusse at 6 goals and Marcello Abiatti
with their new big stick & goal Paco DeNaravez and
which sends Big Mike Hakan to the one position.
The green and red from Grants
Farm slips into town with Hector
Galindo the fastest man on the planet trying to stay
behind Mr. Technical Kris
Kampsen and Andy the Dandy Busch closing the back
door with L.A'S finest Abby Riggs making her own waves
in S.B.
The Governor (Pat
Nesbitt) comes to the table with 3 quarters as they get
a drubbing from the USPA a week before it starts for winning
with a hidden ringer (Alan Martinez) at 2 goals until
he hit the West Coast. The LA air makes him a 4. He is Tall and
young, but its not basketball. The turquoise and gold still have
the Governor and their main quarters in Mr.
Mariano Gonzalez and U.S open champ Adam
Snow, who likes to run fast himself. We are still waiting
for the fourth quarter. They are scared to take him off the plane
if he has an American passport he might be a ringer.
The Robert Skene looks like this
{A} {B}
a Windsor Capital D. Duende
B Isla Carol E. Grants Farm
C Antelope
Sunday 3 p.m. Windsor vs Isla
Friday winner of 3 O'clock game plays Antelope at 3 p.m.
Friday 5 pm has Duende and Grants Farm
the 2 winners at 3 P.M. Sunday, July 21.
Wherever your at San Francisco, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Spokane,
Washington, Santa Fe , New Mexico or Calgary, Alberta. Canada
there is polo.
See Ya July 13,'02:
Calgary - the Stampede is on and so is polo for those
who can make it ,not so easy on Sunday morning. San Diego
- finals time as the girls challenge Chris Maloney of Voyager
and pop for the silver. Is he silent ? Santa Barbara -The
B.S. is over its who's who from this day on.

Santiago Trotz 7 - he has been here before
Geoff Palmer 1- he is ready
July
12, '02: Why do
we play polo? To improve right?
Well do not improve too fast
if your an American because we do not allow that. We have a young
man named Alan Martinez playing in Santa Barbara and he has been
playing in the U.S.P.A. for 7 yrs. He must of been hiding because
after all those years he grew into a big 6 foot 3 inch player
who must weigh approximately 140 pounds. Alan is a man eater
I guess because as of yesterday they want to raise him from 2
to 4 goals. He is so bad, this brawny man made beast is a threat
to a country, the trouble is its his own and the problem seems
to be he won with 2 other Americans and he won so he must be
punished. Americans do not play polo and win unless they are
patrons. It's not fair to the foreigners. As members of the U.S.P.A.
do you want to see another Owen Rinehart or Mike Azzaro in your
lifetime? I do !
Lets support the young Americans.
Hire one, but be careful. If you win change his or her passport.
As a group or an individual please talk to your U.S.P.A. Handicap
representative and suggest or require some help to make an American
player be made in the U.S.A. Give them a chance!
SEE YA

July
8, '02: Polo was in
recess at Santa Barbara, but the horses were running to the South
at San Diego Polo Club where things are hot and heavy in the
8 goal. It was Gypsy-Madison squeaking by Norma Owens team on
Friday and getting by the Colleen and Lillian on Sunday by a
shear bit of luck. Lisa Bosstick and Suzanne Figi saved Graham
Bray and the Palamino (Jason Crowder) several times and won by
2. The last 1 was because they stopped a very easy chance to
tie it and went their way to make a 2 goal swing. Colleen Wilson
and Lillian Heller proved their for the big time as Lillian Heller
with 2 giant goals in the last 3 and a full out blooper to tie
the game kept the star award away in the last 60 seconds and
that puts them at 0 & 2. Madison - Gypsy combo at 2 &
0 then there is Silent Chris of Voyager, blowing by Colleen and
Lillian crew on Friday. But it was their first game and the new
was hard then falling back and playing on a very un-rancho field
pot holes and prarie and giving Norma a Sunday punch and winning
by 3 and puts the Maloney's at 2 & 0 and Norma still waiting
on the edge as she rides to 0 & 2. It looks like it the girls
against poo and sonny boy on Sunday even though they get to check
each other out come Friday night.
Things look good in San Diego.
Some new blood moving around and several are easy to look at.
The editor of this PoloBARN is definitely a made in the USA hard
body favorite . Levi should hire her.
See ya at polo. -- Steve Crowder On July 5 & 7th it was Santa Barbara on break and San
Diego on a roll. It was fun to see where the surf meets the turf.
It was Norma Owens taking a beating from the old and new Lisa
Bosstick and Susan Figi on a good day for everyone else and then
losing to the Maloney's on Sunday.
It was the Maloney's putting
a whipping on Norma Owens and team for a close one. it was on
the Sunday field which needs a lot of work to to Lisa and Susan.
It was fun for a Lisa as they blew away the Lillian Gang on Sunday.
The Palamino (Jason Crowder) and Graham Bray, put a whipping
on Montana Pride.
--Steve Crowder
June
30th, '02: In Southern
California on Sunday was Ladies Day in San Diego. It was
Ms.Suzanne Figi & Mrs Lisa Bosstick running the show and
sneaking by the Collins gang which was sure to sit well with
the women in the crowd. It was very nice to see the ladies take
the edge off Chris Nevins and Graham Bray and make them look
like down home gentleman. They helped the ladies up the victory
steps. The women are brave enough to play this sport as the wankers
at the bar just talk about it. Even I feel like a polo player
sitting over at Scalini's talking about it. Come on boys get
a grip and come and see the girls take a trip down Sunday Lane.
If you're that worried about the danger, take up cheering the
girls on anyway. Lets play "polo"
Santa Barbara was much the same over the weekend as the 2002
champion was Windsor Capital. Their # 1 was a lady named Abby
as in Riggs. She took Ruben Gracida and the boys downtown and
schooled them on taking a man out as Windsor Cap capped off a
great 12-goal season, winning 3 out of 4 and helping fill the
Governor's (Pat Nesbitt's) trophy chest. Pat also played well
wiping out a 3-goal player and scoring 3 on the way to helping
Abby be the hero with 5 fat goals.
Two ladies in England also
did very well as Tamara Vesty was on the Foxcote White team winning
the 22-goal Warkshire Cup and Nicole Vesty was on the Foxcote
Black team winning the 22-goal Tamara cup also in England.
Boys its time to see the light.
These ladies are on a bona fide uprising.
The 12-goal is over and now
the grass needs to grow " boy does it at S.B." The
big sticks can see that it all starts on the 12th day of July.
Be there. We will be and if you need a polo fix drop buy where
the surf meets the turf and watch there ponies run.
In the consolation which was 8-goals closer than the finals it
was the Big Mac Mr. Dardi and the Surfer (Diego Cossio) joining
up with the Bankers to send the Movie Man, Mr. Kazmark, down
in overtime. They failed to make the final deposit and the Bankers
were there to see that transaction complete as Matt & Danny
came up big in the 6th and OT to win it all.
See ya this Friday night at
the "San Diego Polo Club."
