The Polo Report by Steve Crowder
March 30th, '03 - The Final Bell
It has been 10 days and 5 games and nobody stopped The Canadian Freight Train, MERCARI, as they caught the Falcons, through the Desert, into the Hills and ran over a house and finally smashed a Dodge, but they got where they were going. Mercari is the 2003 champ of the Pacific Coast Governor's Cup. They did it with a rocket named Miguelito Torres (M.T.) a Mighty Mike Matz, a fired up Engineer named Lee Pettigrew and The Palomino (Jason Crowder) who rode it to the finish line.
It was a great game and it was 4 players on each side who took it to the wall often. The O's and 1 's were the people who made it happen. The Rocket met his match in speed with Mr. Atlas (Kirk Briggs) and the Engineer (Lee Pettigrew) took out their #2 man. It became a battle between Mighty Mikee taking on Topo Mendez and Curt Hughes trying to ride the Palomino down. It was always close even though the board once showed 4 & 0.
There was a 20 year age deficit between the teams. Mercari's youth at 88 years old versus the 150 year old Ram team was too much. It started tight and it was Mercari by 2 at the end of 1 and it was Mercari by 5 at the end of 2. Almost as Curt Hughes Dodge got 1 to end the chukker it was Mercari by 4 at the end of 4 and Mercari by 3 at the end of 5. In the end it was Mercari by 2. Topo Mendez and The Palomino were the numbers, but the stars were the 0's and the 1's. Lee, Curt and Kirk did it well. It was just that Lee had two 1-Goal players who have a little bit of talent to work with. Mighty Mikee took Topo and Miguelito took the ball and hauled it to the finish line. The Rocket cooled off today, but Miguelito and The Palomino teamed up to make it happen and Lee followed up to keep the boys going and they did send it on.
The weather was great and it was just a Canadian sort of day as the Governor's Cup heads back up North for the first time since Indutech took it home. It was outstanding play by Mikee, who was always against the best player on the other team. Lee getting the other tough job, the next best player as they did well to free the Rocket so the Palomino could send those bombs and the deliveries were made. WELL DONE MERCARI!
Also in the Governor's challenge it was Springbok beating Duende. In the LT. Governor's Cup it was the DMI/Golden Falcons stopping Redwood as Mr. Neumann and Mr. Amin had a very good run just losing to The Canadian Freight Train (Mercari) in their first game and then stopping all others.
March 30th, '03 The End of The Road
There were 96 players who wanted to be here, but there are only 8 left and today 4 must fall. It is FINALS TIME and there can be only 1 champion for the 2003 Pacific Coast Governor's Cup. It will be the some old tough Boys from Curt Hughes Dodge or a pile of rookies on a Canadian Freight called MERCARI. We shall see soon as they see field 1 at 2 p.m. Be there and send some luck to the other Canadian's playing on the East Coast, the Wolf Pack from MILLARVILLE as the go for #2 in the U.S. OPEN down in Florida Sunday at 10 a.m.
It's a fun line up today. You have The Rocket, 14 year old Miguelito Torres vs. the Gentleman MR. Curt Hughes playing the #1 positions. At the #2 position you have Mighty Mikee Matz, all 90lbs of him vs. Mr. Atlas, Kirk Briggs. The Palomino is in the #3 spot vs. Nico Maciel. At #4 the Freight Train and lead deal maker of Mercari, Lee Pettigrew, against the veteran Pro and winner of this tournament before, Topo Mendez. It will be speed and power vs. time and patience. Be there to see it all. We will be there.
See ya. --Steve Crowder
March 28th, '03 -Mercari, a Canadian freight train, just does not stop at the house, they just roll through them. 3 times in the last 35 days it's been a big one and the freight wins. Dudley is going to pay Lee P. to stay in the Canadian Rockies as L.P. is 3 & 0 versus the house that Dudley built. It was the M & M (Mike Matz and Miguelito Torres) gang followed by the P'S (Lee Pettigrew and The Palomino, Jason Crowder) and that's the way they rolled 4 goals down. It was Mighty Mikee taking Tiny Tim and the Rocket Miguelito hauling a** to goal and they were back on track. At he 1/2 with the P's doing their jobs well, L.P. Train Boss just smashing it back up and the Palomino saying "thanks" and heading for the red flag. They just kept coming back and in the 4th it was L.P. stopping the Wolf Man (Ashton Wolf) again sending it back and the Palomino headed south at a high rate of speed. Mighty Mike shut the door as he stuck it in the g o a l and it was all tied up. Then Tiny Tim lost a bit of thought and it was so long to the s e m i f i n a l as the Canadian Freight heads to meet a Ram Tough Dodge Trucks for the finals with the Curt and Briggs show and they are ready to roll.
See you on Sunday at the big one!!!
March 27th, '03: U.S. Open Update - THE WOLFPACK IS ON ATTACK AS THEY RODE THE PONIES DOWN Millarville with Fredrick Mannix and Daniel Roenisch in the lead. They came from being down 11 to 5 in the fourth to tie up Pony Express in the 4th and 5th and tie up and whip them in the 6th. It puts Millarville in round 2 with a 1 & 0 record and they deal with the defending champions on Sunday at 10 a.m., Isla Carrol. Isla Carrol also has a desert connection as the Flying Galindo (Hector) is the man on the fly for them. They are both 1 and 0 now, but I.C. has a game to play today, so it could be a big one on Sunday. You want to see some of the Wolfpack in action try POLOLINE.com Spanish or English. Good luck to the red and white.
March 27th, '03: There Are Only 3 of 24 Now - The final 3 become 2 tomorrow as Curt Hughes Dodge draws a bye to the finals. The Canadian Freight Train Mercari takes on the White House Casa Blanca as they meet for the 3rd time in a big one in the last 3 weeks. It's Mercari with Captain Lee Pettigrew shutting the back door and Miguelito Torres and Mighty Mike Matz running to goal with the Palomino (Jason Crowder) trying to feed them the ball. The house Dudley built has the most underated polo player on the West coast the Wolfman Ashton Wolfe running from everywhere. Two players developed by the White organization Romero and Tim Rudy, who do it all as they send the zingers to Ronai as she heads for goal. It will be fun to watch and its on field 1 at 3:00 O'clock, so be there Friday.
See ya.
March 25th, '03 - The Gov.'s Has Only Three
Friday there were 24 teams, Saturday 12 and Sunday six. There are only 3 left in the mix as we head to the showdown. On Saturday the games were close, but on Sunday it was not quite the same as the 3rd day it was either horses, too many parties or just ran out of luck. There were some major mismatches in the Sunday morning show. It started at 9:30 as Mercari, the Canadian Freight Train, jumped on Southern Hills often and rudely to put them in a hole at 6 to 1. Things finally got going for the boys in green, but a little late as Lee Pettigrew had a great game and set the ways for Mighty Mike Matz and Miguelito Torres to run under the Palomino's (Jason Crowder) passes to head for the flag. They did it well. In the other 9:30 game it was the Bret and Curt show with their big Dodges showing it was not just a Ford day. They followed Topo Mendez And Nicolas in the Ram tough show and set down the boys behind the very attractive lady Alyssa as the Northern California people got on the field all at once. In the other quarter it was the House Dudley built, Casa Blanca, making it a very Gray day for the Gray Group as the Wolfe (Ashton) was howling often and Ronai was barking orders as they thumped them and headed to the final 3. Now that Mr. Busch has taken the Skins home, it's all Governor's Cup action. There will be a lot of it with 4 finals this weekend and the big one will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday. It has been party hardy the last week as they should call Van Buren party street like Burbon Street in New Orleans. It was a wild time and a fun time on the North side at Duende on Friday night and the South side at Rio. Brazo Norte came right back on Sunday night to make it a true party alley. Our thanks from the Polo people to Mike Hakan and Fred Mannix. It was a w e s o m e times and thanks again. The Gov.'s party probably should meet your social directors a $100 for pasta salad does not add up even when your gambling. Thanks to the big support for Melicio Soto. It was so great to see the polo people support a very worthy cause.
See ya this Friday night.
March 24th, '03- Farming With Andy Busch
It was skinning time at the Grant's Farm yesterday and it was Andy Busch making it happen with a giant display of power and speed. The green and white machine was just a little more powerful than Voyager in gold and blue, but if you did not enjoy this game do not come back because it was simply an awesome game. On a perfectly warm Sunday, the first one in the 2003 Spring, the game got started with the very fine parades and frills. Then it was just hard fast polo. After 4 weeks and 6 games your here and you are the only ones here because you beat everybody else and it was apparent early in the game that mistakes were going to cost you quick. In first chukker it was throw in goal for Grants Farm, a throw in goal for Voyager, then a throw in Voyager 3 more times as Matt Gonzalez and Chris Nevins took the big passes from Steve Dalton and headed to goal. They put the first $4,000 in their pocket. Grants Farm came right back in the second chukker with some big goals by Andy Busch and very fast polo. They won the 2nd check for $4,000. Chukker 3 started fast and serious as both teams got starter money. Now they want more and they were going after it as without question the best refereed game in 2 years here. No Mickey Mouse stuff, just polo. There were 8 goals scored in the first 14 minutes. The boards and good umpires make it fast. In chukker 3 Grants Farm was up 2 to 1 with 9 seconds to go whistle and Mr. Nevins stuck it right down the middle to tie it up. Chukker 4 was for $8000. With some wide open goals from Andy Busch and Fast-Etta Z (Mariano Fassetta) Grants Farm was up 2 to 1 again. A mistake with 23 seconds to go Grants Farm fouled with 8,000 dollars on the line. From 40 yards out the Iceman Nevins never looked up, just sent it through for another draw. On to chukker 5 for $12,000. It was getting hot right about this time and speed is everywhere. A couple of big runs by Joseph Stuart and hard working Mariano Gutierrez set up the big sticks Andy Busch and Mariano Fassetta and they pulled it off winning chukker 5 for $16,000. That left $4,000 on the table for chukker 6 and nobody wanted to give up a penny. It was Matt Gonzalez down the field and Joseph Stuart flat out, but someone was right on his you know what and there were only 2 goals scored. It was again a draw, so that means even in the Skins s u d d e n DEATH and it was, but it was not sudden. It was both teams missing some great opportunities. MVP Andy Busch missed an open goal penalty, but it was a farming day. The boys in white stole the ball and got that flag to fly up and they picked up five big checks and Voyager got one. It was a great day and it was very good polo. Excellent performances by the Iceman (Chris Nevins) and the other 3-goaler Mariano Gutierrez. Both were outstanding in their positions and it was Andy Busch who blasted those big ones right out of the goal mouth. That was so g o o d. We would like to thank Ford Truck's for their share and Eldorado for buying sideboards. Now if we could just get A.J. to buy Texas Polo BALLS. Like S.S. says A.J. won't use K-Mart golf balls, but he should if we have to use these as they last 1 tenth of the time and are so small after a couple of games they are like golf balls.
See ya and thanks for coming.
March 23rd, '03 - 24 Unbeaten Teams
At 10:30 this morning there were 24 unbeaten teams at 12 noon. 3 had fallen and they were Fish Creek 2, Polo Dude/West 5, and MC Polo. At 12.30 there were 21 left and by 2 p.m. there were 17 left. Guess what? By 5 p.m. there were only 12 as Playa Grande fell and Cymric and the Golden Falcons 2 along with Boss Polo and Windsor and Ford Trucks, Summerland, Redwood and last but not least Gypsy. It was all in one day of March Madness on a horse. There were some very good games and as far as I know no bad ones as many were 1 goal and a couple went to O.T.
At 7 p.m. it was the best damn party in town down on Van Buren way. Mr. Duende, Mike Hakan, had a wild night under the stars and it was fun for all. If you did not have fun, well we know you have a problem! Thanks Mike!
Day 2 is Saturday was also a very busy day. It started with The Wyoming Cowboy trying to set a Dodge out, but they were not enough as Curt Hughes Dodge was Ram tough and climbed that mountain of Melodies. Next door it was Tulsa Time as Sweet Southern Hills rolled over the Peru /Dundee/Hawaiian connection as Mr. Hakan and Bones brought in a couple of Peruvian Warriors. They just could not stop Mr. Herndon's road show. At noon game it was The Canadian Freight train Mercari without Smoking Joe still smoking to the Sunday side as Mr. Lee put some major pressure on young Carlitos and they slid by Dandy Dan by a couple. Super sexy Alyssa kept things headed the right way. Los Mirasoles sent the Ambassador home on the bus and another pretty little lady keeps pulling the boys forward as Julie Clark kept the Gray group in the North bound lane for Sundays road to the final 3. In the 14-Goal, guess what MANSOUR W O N? Yes believe it or not they took home 3rd place as head Rug man Ben Solemani scored 2 and the Palomino (Jason Crowder) made one in the last 20 seconds to ruin a Duende party.
See you Skinnin on Sunday afternoon.
March 21st, '03 - The Skin's, The Govenor's, & The Open
About 3600 miles away the West has some interest in THE BIG DADDY OF THEM ALL THE U.S. OPEN. Millarville starts their road to the big one on the 26th. It all started on the 16th with 11 teams in the big one. On Sunday it was the Flying Galindo (Hector) taking Memo Gracida's place and rescuing Isla Carrol from the minus section with a brilliant performance to beat Pony Express down 6 to 1. He made it happen. Since then, it has been C-Spear winning 1 as well as Texas Polo and Lechuza getting by Orchard Hill. We will let you know when the Wolf Pack (Millarville) gets down to the opening day. They say the wind is blowing there too.
See ya & do pray for the troops that's not a game.
March 21st, '03 - 8 to 4 and No More. It's 2 to Show Time.
After 20 days and 5 very hard games, some rain, some wind and some hot weather, it came to 4 teams on a very windy day and some real "grip it and rip it" mentality to be there. There were are only 2 left standing and they are the 3 & 4 of the first 8 ,but that's polo. At high noon it was the Golden Falcons with Mr. Amin leading a very good show down the road to the final four. No one played better it was just who played best. From the start it was so good it was the Falcons by 2 and in the end of 2 it was the Falcons by 2. Finally C.N. and C.M. put in on even and they took a 1/2 time content to have a draw as Matt stole a knockin to Knott it and at the end of 4 Voyager was again down by 2 with 1 to go. It looks like the Golden Falcons were there, but some flashy work by Nevins and Dalton got it right in the 6th. Great team work tied it up and we were down to sudden d e a t h. It started fast as one then the other made a mistake, but no blood. Then it was the Baldy's time to shine as he did GRIP IT AND RIP IT right through the goal to sew up one spot in the Skins Final. In the 2:30 it was 23 MPH winds with gusts up to 40. Bad Brad and Stone Canyon took on Mr. Busch's Grants Farm and it was a day to go South as a North wind was howling that way. It was some very tough polo as Grants Farm missed 3 goal shots in the first 5 minutes and Mr. Abbiati had the ball on the south goal once and made it on the throw in. With 20 seconds left Fast-etta (Mariano Fassetta) tied it up and in chukker 2 it was an open goal into the wind the first to go that way. Then it was tied again at 1/2 time. The Stone Canyon Cowboys again got up by 2 with some great team plays in the 4th and a beaten up Grants Farm making some silly fouls down 6 to 4 did it right in the fifth and had then in the 6th it was the wind keeping all in order as with it you scored without it you did not. Finally on a bad knock in it was Andy Busch giving it up by one into the wind and then riding the northern wind to the other side of the Skins where it will be Silent Chris Maloney and Andy Busch
making a brand new roster for Sunday afternoon. There were also 12 Gov.'s cup games today (Friday) and 12 more tomorrow. So come on out !!!!
Make Ups Made Up - Rainouts in the Officer's and Jr. Officer's were made up. In the 4-goal it was The Baby Fish having a feast on Playa Grande as they spanked theem to take home the big one. In the Officer's challenge Old Silvers Son, Phillip Friden, was the hero and poured in four as the Ambassador's team (Gehache) got by the Canadian Freight minus Smoking Joe who is headed south to elephant land. In the first 2 weeks of March madness it was MR CLARKS REDWOOD Officer's Cup Champs
Fish Creek 2 Jr. Officer's Champs.
April 16th, '03 - Mr. Clark learns good lessons from the Silver Fox, Mr. Collins. When you see Harry C. hanging with Mr. Clark something is up. It was stormy skies and black clouds running in over the weekend. The Gypsy's wondering as the black cloud came in the form of Mr. Clark and Pedro O. as they found a way to slip by The Gypsy's Surfer Doc for the 2003 Officers Championship. Polo is a strange game and it always has been. That's why we play the game. Most good teams can beat anyone, any day, as was the case here in the Feb. semis. Mercari beat Redwood by 10 goals and in this same tournament Gypsy beat Mercari by 2 and then lost to Redwood. That is what makes polo! In the current tournament it was Dandy Danny Rowlands doing the damage and Pedro locked the door. He scored 4 big goals, mostly alone, as Mr. Clark was drawing some fire and making several big plays as he needed to do. Ms. Figi was doing away with Mr. Pasqual on the other end, but Mr. Clark and Redwood had the eye of the Tiger and they had it their way in the finals. It was a great day and a great game, but do not tell the other team. What is great is w i n n i n g and REDWOOD DID IT!!!!
Stay tuned for the revised schedule as those black clouds did it to the rest of the weekend. The weather us MOTHER NATURE IS STILL THE BOSS when she wants to be and she was as Eldorado was a very quiet place today.
See ya. Crowder
March 15th, '03 -Thursday was a bad day down South in Florida. The Wolf Pack (Millarville) fell to the Everglades and got knocked out of the finals in the 26-goal league. They did, however, do well. Millarville did not have any 10-goalers on the team to feed them. It's not like Wolves to do well in swamps.
In the desert it was a blowout as I see it. It started soft with the already qualified Golden Falcons falling to winless Windsor. Mighty Mike Matz taking the Governor's (Pat Nesbitt) place. Then it was 3 at once as Stone Canyon took on the rug rats Mansour and did it well. Then it was how bad can we get beat for fields 2 & 3. Grants Farm got hammered by Duende by 10 and tried to get back in the race. The Voyagers fried the Fish from Fish Creek by 7 and they get the 4th place in the semis. Some where during the day it was The Gypsy and the Doc putting a Melody on the Wyoming Cowboys of Melody Ranch and turning out the campfire. As expected, Ms. Susan Figi destroyed another #1 and is looking for Mr. Clark, who came blowing by the other Long shot Curt Hughes Dodge in a close one. Pedro O and Dandy Dan Rowlands gave him a hand to the finals where they meet on Sat. at 2:30 for the Officers Cup Finals.
See ya there. Steve Crowder
March 14, '03 - Showdown on Friday at the Eldroado Corral for the Final 4 and it is . . .
Mr. Clark's boys from Redwood on a path of power trying to stop
the Ram Tough Dodge boys from Curt Hughes. Both have
a road to the final four. Only the Dodge Boys had it a
little easier. They had a bye in the first round, but
still had to deal with the Desert Vet to get this far.
On the other side it was the Mexican Sect. of Defense
stopping them all and leading the Wyoming Melody Ranch
of Paul Von Gontard (PVG) to the final 4 with
Gunslinger Shane hitting often and hard to Gramps
Ramsby and PVG. They got a Doc and A Gypsy to try to
sing, but I do not know if Gypsys sing, but they
will make someone sing trying to escape her web If
they do, they have a Bray in the way . Should be fun.
It is the end of the trail for four on G.F. and it's a
good initial this week. It does not mean Good Friday,
but it does mean you are in the final four as they're
through Grant's Farm and Golden Falcons, but they may
play a big role in who they play as Grant's Farm and
Mr. Busch take on Duende. Duende has seen better
weeks, but they still have a chance, well sort of. The
Golden Falcons try to make it 4 & 0 and put another X
on the Governor's board which will take them from the finals
in '02 to the trees in '03. The tough one for the 4th
is Fish Creek and Voyager. Voyager eats fish,
but they have to catch them first. We shall see in the
other barn burner, Bad Brad Schlei and his weapons try to
lock up 3rd with a rug beating on Mansour. Mansour
still has a faraway shot with a 6 goal win so we shall
see.
In the Jr. Officer&Mac226;s there are only 3 and it is down
to 2 who go to the finals. Denny and his girls
get a bye to Sunday show time and they get to watch
Mr. Herndon's Southern Hills from Oklahoma get it on
with the Okie and Fish Creek 2. There will be no
prisoners.
--Crowder
March 10th, '03 Skinning Time - Day two of the Skins Tournament started out rough. The Golden Falcon's did A major skinning of Duende. Mr. Amin and his 3 rockets continue to play very well with Augi (Agustin Zavaleta) swinging his taco and leaving the tic tic home. It was easy for him to make it down the field with Amin taking out whomever. There sure was enough great team work and you do not have to believe me just ask Duende and Mansour. They both got beat by 6. The Fish got out of the water and could not swim on the carpet as the Rug Man (Ben Soleimani) & Baby Z (Juan Martin Zavaleta) went with the Palomino (Jason Crowder) and a souped up FVW (Federico Von Wernich) to put a stopper on Fish Creek. This is the first time (since January) the Fish have been beat since they played with the Palomino and he had a big hand on beating them. Grant's Farm did a wipeout on the Gov.'s house (Windsor/Bulldogs) as they sent the Governor (Pat Nesbitt) looking for more votes. He was soundly beaten by the green and white on field 2. It was the battle of patron's as Bad Brad Schlei and Silent Chris Maloney hooked up in a great battle with a lot of other help from a few other guys, but it was the patron's shutting down big runs time and time again. Silent Chris had the final say with the win and a great belly shot goal. Bad Brad 1 upped him with a spectacular run and a back hand flip through the goal, but he needed 1 more as The Voyager's got their record to even.
The Officer's Cup started where the 8-goal left off in Feb. Casa Blanca and Mercari met in the first round. I am sure Dudley will buy a ticket to South Africa for Smoking Joe Henderson, as he again led the charge from Canada and with big help in the last 3 chukkers from the Palomino. They burnt the house down as Mr. Pettigrew and wee Rhi stopped the ends and set them free. Melody Ranch had a big 6th chukker and came from behind to get the Indutech Gang from behind. The Mexican Sectary of defense (Fernando Pliego) did what he often does. He stopped the running and made it happen going the other way. Redwood got back to their winning ways as Mr. Clark was smiling with that winning grin and they sent Calgary to the Southern bracket. The Ambassador was out of town so they got Mighty Mike Matz to set up the house for him and he did as they rolled all over Springbok. At the Cantina Field it was Arizona Lady Terese and Dr. Randazzo making Mr Amins day only 1/2 as good as he wanted after a big win in the 14-goal. It was 2 ladies and their boys with Ms. Figi (Gypsy-Surfer Doc) coming out on top as Ms. Dyan (Cymric) did not. They rolled the Gypsy-Doc past Cymric for a big win. In the final game of the day we saw Boss Polo run into a very Flashy Blond named Alyssa Barlow and a Argentine Surfer (Diego Cossio) with the Picture Man (Steve Wayda) and they made Andrew's (Bossom) day a very long one as Boss Polo heads to the Jr. bracket. There are 42 games this weekend so come and see some polo and stop by the cantina as its time for Beverly to buy.
See ya
March 11th, '03 - Salute to the Officer's
She is short, she is tough, and she will win 99% of her ride-offs. Who's that? The Gypsy is MS. SUSAN fIGI who figured out that wee Rhi is the secret weapon who beat everybody during the last month as only Smoking Joe and the Palomino seemed to know well. That is until Saturday and it was time out as Rhi saw the ball seldom and distant. It was the Gypsy-Surfer's beating the House Burners, Mercari. The Canadian train came to a halt as the boys and ladies in red derailed a train and they go to the semis. They will see Melody Ranch who blew bye the Surfer and his Golden Maned beauty Alyssa. They went to the Sec. of Defense and hard-riding Shane Rice a few times too little and now they are out of it too. In the other bracket Mr. Clark continues his journey with Pedro to the top. With the Canadian Train (Mercari) out they are looking good as they stopped the Ambassador's squad (Gehache) by scoring just a few more and they did it on the Ambassador's Field. Mr. Clark, you're supposed to be nice at his house. Now they are heading to the semis against a resurrected Henry Zavaleta who seems to have found his way back into the polo world with a new mind. Henry and the Bret and Curt show roll on. They only had to play 1 as they drew the only bye then trapped the Arizona Beauty and Mr. Desert Vet in the last 5 minutes to get the win. So from 15 to 4 there is no time to rest.
The Skin's day 3 was a perfect day for polo and it was a perfectly bad day for some. A picture perfect day for 2 as at 10 a.m. it was the flying Amin and his Golden Falcon's waking up to stop the Voyager's and give them a pass to the semis. They made the Voyage of the Voyager's a tough one as they have to deal with Fish Creek who has a very riled up camp of Sharks looking to eat someone as they lost to believe it or not Duende at 12 noon. Duende is now back in the race for 3rd or 4th even with a 1 & 2 record. In the other 12 noon game it was a wild one as Grant's Farm remained perfect as they slid by The Rug boys and Mansour, who also have a chance but a long one, as both Mansour and Duende are in trouble with net goals.
It's like this . . .
Team wins losses
Windsor 0 3 out
Stone Canyon 2 1
Grant's Farm 3 0 >
golden falcons 3 0 >
Voyager 1 2
Duende 1 2
Mansour 1 2
Fish Creek 1 2

March 7th, '03: The Wolf Pack - THE FLORIDA SUN is not bothering the boys from Canada as they continue to feast on 10-goalers (that is 4 thus far). They are unbeaten in the CV WHITNEY Tournament (26 goals). It's no wonder Memo found a way to avoid them in the first game. That's why he has been 10-goals for 20 some years. He thinks and he must have known he would much rather play a make up team than the Wolf Pack as the only blemish on their record. They were 25 miles away winning a title of the Sunshine League Champions and Memo would not move their game to another day or there might have been 6 - 10-goalers down. Good luck this weekend from the West Coast. Frederick Mannix, Daniel Roenisch, Mr. Mariano Gonzalez and
Joey C a s e y.
See ya. Steve Crowder
March 4rd, '03: In south Florida it was the Canadians winning a big one as they had a great 4 days. On Thursday they won the Sunshine League. Next they added a 6-goaler Joey Casey and headed up north to Palm Beach to whip up On the Mighty White Birch squad with Bautista Heguy. It was a great win and it was a true team effort as Frederick Mannix and Daniel Roenisch with Mariano Gonzalez did it for the Millarville squad, a by product of Fish Creek. Good Luck from the West Coast.
March 3rd, '03: Snow Caps - It was Seniors and Skins, so there were a lot of snow-capped heads around as well as some very snow-capped mountains in the background. It was an absolutely gorgeous weekend at El Dorado Polo Club. It was a very sunny day and in the Skins Tournament it was very hot polo for the first 3 matches. Grant's Farm and Voyager, neither playing that great, kept it interesting. Voyager got out in front by 4 goals as Mr. Nevins played a wide open tough # 2. The Bald kid got it going with a run to goal, but the Fast-etta (Mariano Fassetta) kept Grant's Farm in the running as they kept the Voyagers from running away. At halftime, down by 3, Grant's Farm started a sure enough come back as they scored 3 and tied it up. Andy Busch made some booming back shots, sending the ball back to Little Joe (Stuart) and Mariano 2 (Gutierrez) as they came alive to tie again in the fifth and sixth. Then along came M.R. O.T. and after 4 misses they sent the final bullet into Voyager and it was Grant's Farm first and final lead as it was all over. At high noon it was a double shootout as Bad Boy Brad Schlei started his own team for March and he was in trouble early as Abbiati took a fall on Friday and was replaced by Gaston Von Wernich. It got very ugly early as Duende had a four goal lead at the 1/2, but the boys in gold and yellow forgot the red was getting higher than the black. T.D. (Travis Dix) and Bad Brad started to get the ball, and a man, and Gaston Von Wernich took over the backdoor and slammed it shut as the Duende boys saw the flag raise only once in the last 3. It was not enough as they also went into O.T. It was Stone Canyon making it wave as T.D. put it on the board.
Fish Creek was winning on both coasts this week. The Wolf Pack (Millarville) put their name on the Sunshine League 22 goal Banner for 2003. The Big Mac signed the winning card at Eldorado for Feb. and it was Macho Man stopping the British Captain (Malcolm Borwick) along with the Midget (Tomas Pieres) who lost his MVP form a little but happens to small people but he will be back to help this week. They will be fine and they won by 1 to send the Windsor/Bulldogs growling home. The worst game of the day was the main game. It was a polo lessons how not to. The Baby Z (Juan Martin Zavaleta) and the Palomino (Jason Crowder) found you must see that there are things to do besides hit the ball ,because when you cannot hit the ball through the goal, the other team will always get the ball back and they might score. They did so often
that it was 8 to 2 at the 1/2. The Golden Falcons continued to soar and did drop the Rug Man (Ben Soleimani) by 6 at the finish. We go into week 2 with the following standing.
W.C 0-1
MAN. 0-1
DUEN 0-1
VOY. 0-1
F.C. 1-0
G.FA. 1-0
S.C. 1-0
G.F. 1-0
A VERY GOOD DAY FOR BRACKET B
The mountains were not the only thing with white tops. The silver-haired boys were in town for the Seniors Tournament sponsored by MR.TRIONE, one of the greatest polo supporters in the world and a polo man himself for many years. It started fast and the white heads may not have been as fast as they once were, but the desire was there. Curt Hughes Dodge took over Empire for the day as they put a whipping on them. It was Washington Lettuce with the Burger Man Mr. Dardi showing how to do the Burger Dance on Gehache. Dardi scored 4 to wrap up the win for the Lettuce Man Mr. Dill. Then Old Silver (Eric Friden) showed them why they stay at the El Encanto and not in Playa Grande as he led the way with 2 for his squad. In the next one it was Bob Gray and Larry Rudy racking up the goals as Melody Ranch slid by the Cowboys from Phoneix.
In the consolation finals it was the Arizona Cowboys putting their foot down on Empire and H&H in a round robin to take away the silver. In the other Bracket it was Eduardo Sirnadas, from a polo country Argentina, blasting in 3 goals as they rolled by Playa Grande.
Sunday in the Merlot Bracket it was Washington Lettuce led by Mr. Burger Man trying to get free lettuce from Mr. Dill as he scored 2 to show Old Silver they should serve Hamburgers at the El Encanto. They won by 1.
In the Chardonnay Bracket it was Melody Ranch and Curt Hughes Dodge fighting to a draw. No more horse and time for some fine wine, so they had a flip and a quarter won it all for Melody Ranch. It was a great turnout and mighty fine polo to watch if you missed it, it was your loss. See you next year.
And thanks for coming from as far away as Australia, the UK, Argentina, Canada and Mexico. We enjoyed it.
See ya
