On October 12-15, 2000, polo
players from thirty six states and ten countries united in Las
Vegas at Polo America Expo 2000 for the first international polo
convention. Players were treated to three days of seminars covering
every aspect of polo, from club management to polo coaches to
how to purchase a horse. The speakers were household names in
the world of polo. In conjunction with Polo America Expo 2000
the USPA held their annual meeting at the Aladdin. Sherry Browne
of the USPA stated that she has never seen committee meetings
so well attended.
In the Polo Village, attendees
had the opportunity to visit sixty exhibitors featuring everything
imaginable for polo. It was truly one stop polo shopping. Every
major tack shop in the world was on display.
On Saturday, October 14th,
the USPA held their general assembly meeting in the morning and
sponsored the cocktail reception with Equisure in the evening.
In the afternoon Fred Joaillier sponsored a jewelryreception
at their boutique. The highlight of the convention was the black
tie blue jeans formal dinner. The300 guests witnessed an incredible
audio visual presentation sponsored by Palm Beach Polo Club.
Theevening started with the Polo America Polo Angel awards. Keleen
Beal, Glen Holden, SK Johnston, Jesse Upchurch, Fred Mannix and
Pat Nesbitt were honored. After dinner Henry Trione received
the Polo America Lifetime Achievement Award. And to cap off the
evening the Blues Brothers performed to an enthusiastic crowd.
As the convention came to a
close on Sunday, the crowd already began to talk about next year.
With the power of word of mouth, the 2001 Polo America Expo should
