Canadian star poloist Steve
Dalton scored nine of his team's 13 goals to overpower CasaBlanca/Sportsitio's
roster, 13-7. He scored five of those goals in the first chukker
of play on the MVP Pony, Donna. Steve got Donna from Willis Allen,
who has a passion for breeding and raising fine polo ponies.
Tritech's Dalton, who is the Captain of Team Canada for the upcoming
World Championships, teamed up with Argentinian pro Gaston Von
Wernich, to present an awesome display of precision teamwork.
Khai Agon and Chris Maloney the Number one and four positions
respectfully, did a great job in complementing the Tritech victory.
San Diego's Chris Maloney is responsible for putting together
the winning foursome and is considered to be one of the most
talented amateurs playing in Southern California. Khai Agon originally
from Kauai, Hawaii was substituting for local Rancho Santa Fe
resident, Steve Maloney.
The CasaBlanca/Sportsitio roster included Rancho Santa Fe residents
Jennifer Anakar and Reggie White. Their professionals were Carlos
Galindo and Federicko Von Wernich. Reggie White also plays for
the local Bishop High School's Football Team.
Federicko Von Wernich received Glenlivet's "Shot of the
Game" with an incredible score from both a great distance
and difficult angle. Ferericko was the second highest scorer
with five goals.
The O-4 goal is not a National
Championship, but we call it the San Digeo Rossmore Cup-the winners
were Photo Polo's Ed Masterson from San Diego, Shane Rice and
Billy Sheldon (both from Poway, CA), and Andy Maze (New Zealand).
They defeated CasaBlanca's Ronai White (Rancho Santa Fe), Ashton
Wolf (LA), Ramero Gonzalez and Carlos Galindo (Mexico), in a
thrilling over-time victory, 7-6. Andy Maze scored all six of
Photo Polo's goals during
regulation play, but Billy Sheldon scored the winning goal well
into the sudden-death chukker with a textbook near-side forehander.
Carlos Galindo scored five goals in the closely matched contest.
Teams played off against each
other for a two-week tournament to capture the title. Teams will
continue on to play the Delta Cup for the next two weeks. The
polo season continues until October 15th. For more information,
