ANACONDA WINS SURF CUP IN 8-10 GOAL

SAN DIEGO, CA - Team Anaconda of Nouredine Anakar (0), Tomas Pieres (4), Gaston Von Wernich (5) and Eric Dix (1) beat Tri Tech 9 to 6 in the 8-10 goal finals of the Surf Cup at the San Diego Polo Club on July 22, 2001. Playing for Tri Tech was Steve Maloney (0), Jamie Mirikatani (3), Steve Dalton (6) and Chris Maloney (1).

Anaconda put up a good offense and took the lead in the first chukker with one goal by Pieres and one by Von Wernich. By the end of the third chukker Anaconda had created a lead of 6 to 1. Tri Tech pulled together to keep the team intact scoring three goals in chukker number four contributed by Steve Maloney, Chris Maloney and Jamie Mirikatani.

The team continued to try to make-up lost ground scoring a goal in the fifth and a goal in the sixth chukker. Anaconda, true to their reputation, once again demonstrated consistent teamwork throughout the match that gave them the victory with a three goal margin.

In the consolation 8-10 goal finals Casa Blanca beat Panache/Madison
Square 11 to 6. Playing for Casa Blanca was Reggie White (1), Santos
Arreola (2), Carlos Galindo (4) and Tim Rudy (2). Playing for
Panache/Madison Square was John Parker (0), Matthew Gonzalez (4), Mariano
Fassetta (5) and Lisa Bosstick (0). Both teams put up a good offense in
the first two chukkers, trading goals with a 3 to 3 tie at the close of
the third period. In the fourth period it was all Casa Blanca with three
goals, one each by Reggie White, Arreola and Galindo. The team continued
with their momentum scoring three more goals in chukker five and two in
chukker six. Panache/Madison Square stayed together and gave their all to
put 3 more goals on the board, one by Parker and two by Fassetta.
