Oct. 18th, '04: WELLINGTON, Florida International Polo Club Palm Beach, the premier high-goal polo club in the United States, is expanding to meet the demands following its highly acclaimed inaugural season.
Highlighting the $3 million expansion are 36 boxes 32 with eight seats and four with six seats at midfield. The stadium will now have a total of 116 boxes, the majority of which have already been reserved for the upcoming 2005 season. Only members can purchase reserved box seating.
Opening Day is Sunday, January 2 with a 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup game. The 2005 season concludes on Sunday, April 24 with the Stanford Financial Group U.S. Open championship match.
“After the season ended, we had such a great response from members and sponsors that we moved up building more box seats,” said International Polo Club owner John Goodman. “A large stadium filled with spectators adds to the ambience.”
A retail shop selling official International Polo Club logoed clothing, a box office, and the 7th Chukker, an intimate bar open to the public, will be built underneath the new stands. In addition, two new polo fields will be ready for the 2005 season, giving the club seven world-class playing surfaces.
“Our goal from the beginning was to make this club the best polo club in the United States,” added Goodman. “We are well on our way to doing so, judging from the responses we’ve received from players, fans and sponsors.”
International Polo Club Palm Beach is making other improvements, according to General Manager Michael Brown.
As always, there will be a delicious catered Sunday brunch preceding the featured stadium match, the popular champagne divot stomp at halftime, sponsored by Roderer Estates, and a post-match awards presentation.
The popular Sunday brunch will be catered by renowned restaurateur Barton G. of Miami in a marquee overlooking Field 2. Seatings will be at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“Having Barton G. as part of the team makes brunch even more special,” said Brown. “His food is sophisticated and whimsical, both in taste and presentation.”
A “village” of vendors selling everything from tack to boots to children’s polo equipment will be set up at the north end of the stadium, making it a perfect gathering place before the game.
“We had this in place during the U.S. Open and it proved so popular, that we decided to have it for the entire season,” explained Brown.
As always, the best players in the world will participate in the competitive schedule in the United States. Twenty high-goal teams are expected to play during the season. Most of the world’s 10-goalers, including Americans Mike Azzaro and Adam Snow, and 9-goalers such as Hall of Famer Memo Gracida, will compete at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Individual game tickets range from $10 for general admission to $60 for tailgating spots and are available in advance. For ticket information, please call the club at (561) 204-5687 or visit online at www.internationalpoloclub.com. Tickets are also available on the day of the game at the gate.
The International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South, between Pierson Road and Lake Worth Road, in Wellington.
