WELLINGTON Because of two days of rainouts, all 10 teams will be in action Monday in the 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup polo tournament at International Polo Club Palm Beach. All games will be played on the club’s backfields.
Crab Orchard (2-0), the highest scoring team in the tournament with 32 goals, plays Goshen (1-1) at 10 a.m.
At 1 p.m. Millarville (2-0) plays Santa Clara (1-1) and Skeeterville (1-1) plays Old Pueblo (0-2). At 3 p.m., Lechuza Caracas (2-0), the tournament’s second-ranked offense with 31 goals, plays San Saba (0-2) and Henley House (1-1) plays Pony Express (0-2).
The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is named after American polo legend Joe Barry, who died on May 18, 2002 at the age of 58. Born and raised in Texas, he achieved a 9-goal rating and dominated polo in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Barry won six U.S. Open championships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups as well as the Coronation and Camacho Cup trophies. One of the greatest No. 4s in polo history, Joe Barry was elected to the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999.
