<continued from page 1 >The teams were awarded prizes by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Star Jones Reynolds of ABC’s “The View” during the post-match ceremonies. John Walsh of “America’s Most Wanted” and Ethel Kennedy also attended the game. So did more than 20 past U.S. Open champions, who were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
This was the 28th time that the U.S. Open was decided by one goal.
Historically, the U.S. Open has always been the grand prize of polo in North America. It is one of only four tournaments played at the 26-goal echelon, the highest-rated tournament in the United States. The first U.S. Open title game was played in 1904 at Van Cortland Park in New York City where the Wanderers defeated the Freebooters 4 ?-3, the lowest scoring final in the history of the tournament.
The 2006 high-goal polo season at International Polo Club Palm Beach is expected to begin in early January. For information, call (561) 204-5687.

Year - Miguelito Torres won The Polo Excellence Awards 2004 Young Player of the Year, along with Ulysses Escapite, who played on Duende in the Santa Barbara 20-goal last summer.
The awards have been given by Polo Magazine annually since 1986 to players 22 years or younger who have shown exceptional talent, sportsmanship and horsemanship in a particular year. A player can only win Young Player once in their life, however they are also eligible for Player of the Year or Amateur Player of the Year an unlimited number of times.

Segway Polo was introduced at the U.S. Open and during the U.S.P.A. meetings. It has become a new rage in the Silicon Valley area. There are rumors that the U.S.P.A. may receive their first applicant from a Segway Polo Club. For those of you who are not familiar with Segway Human Transporters, they are electric-powered, self-balancing transportation devices. We were able to see first hand how they work during the U.S. Open and other games that took place over the weekend.
