A late rally couldn’t help Sugar Maple as Gene’s Cleaning bounced back from their loss in the tournament opener and held onto their early lead in the second match of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Cup at Saratoga Polo on Sunday. The final score was 10-6.
While Sugar Maple’s Peter Lusardi had the first goal of the evening, Gene’s Cleaning had the following 6 in a true team effort.
While the middle of the match was dominated by tough defensive play, both teams went on scoring flurries in the final chukkers. Down by as many as four goals at times, Lusardi and David Eldridge brought Sugar Maple back to a one-goal margin by the sixth and final chukker. In serious threat of losing their lead for the first time since the first chukker, Gene’s Cleaning responded with a tally from Juve Baez and back-to-back markers from Gene Gass to cap off the night.
The KPMG Best Playing Pony was awarded to Pinta, Jeaniene Gass’s mount in the second and sixth chukkers.
The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Cup continues on Wednesday, June 29 at Saratoga Polo’s Whitney Field 2 at 5:30pm. All matches are open to the public.
