June 27th, '05: THE GILGIT CUP KICKS OFF THE 2005 POLO SEASON - With the help of Mother Nature, the Calgary Polo Club began it’s 2005 season with the Gilgit Cup tournament on Saturday and Sunday. We had a great turnout with 4 teams all vying for the coveted trophy donated by Husain Umar. The finals between Mercari and The Amigos were action packed from start to finish. Mercari led for most of the game, but in the fourth chukker Scott Hunt scored 2 quick goals to put the Amigos up by 1 goal, but with only seconds remaining in the game Dayelle Fargey scored one for Mercari to tie it up. Since this was the first tournament of the season and the horses were a little out of shape, both teams agreed to let a coin toss decide the winner, and with that Mercari won the toss and the 2005 Gilgit Cup.
