July 3rd, '05: Independence Cup at Saratog ends in a tie - Taking a break from the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Cup, local players assembled at Saratoga Polo to play the Second Annual Captain’s Cup on Sunday. The non-regulation match, featuring Stockade facing off against Saratoga, ended in a tie.
Decked out in Red, White and Blue polo shirts, Saratoga got out front early, but squandered a two goal lead the half and had to play catch up at the end of the match to tie.
Saratoga was led by Peter Lusardi with 4 goals, two in the third chukker and two in the sixth and final chukker to ensure the tie. AJ Famiano, Dave Peters and Tony Coppola supported Lusardi defensively with a goal apiece.
Stockade’s Sebastian Bonorino led all scorers with 5 markers. Carol Koch rounded out the scoring with 2 tallies of her own.
The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Cup will continue at Saratoga Polo. The next polo match will be Wednesday, July 6 at 5:30pm.
