Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club
Robert Skene Trophy - First Weekend
16-20 Goal

Thirteen was the lucky number this weekend at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club for the winning teams, Antelope and Mansour.

Sunday, July 10 @ 1 p.m. -Mansour triumphed over Mr. Cecil’s California Ribs/Jimmy Choo team 13 to 9.  Mariano Gonzalez on Mansour’s squad lived up to his 8-goal rating by being high scorer for the game knocking in 6 goals, 4 of those penalty shots; both Patron Ben Soleimani and Hector Galindo scored 3 each; and Chris Nevins knocked one in during the second chukker. Mansour will go into the semi-finals on Friday, July 15 at 3 p.m. against Duende. For Mr. Cecil’s/Jimmy Choo it was Nick Roldan and Hugo Barabucci sharing four goals each; while teammate Todd Offen hit one in.

Sunday July 10 @ 3 p.m. - Fast and furious, nip and tuck all the way, described the second game of the Robert Skene Trophy with Antelope nudging out Grant’s Farm/Windsor Capital by one goal in the final five seconds of the game. Luis Escobar made the penalty shot sailing the ball high and straight over the goal posts giving Antelope the win thus sending them to the semi-finals on Friday, July 15. Antelope was last year’s Pacific Coast Open winner. They will play the Audi team at 1 p.m. Antelope’s 10-goal rated player, Adam Snow, was a powerhouse knocking in five goals, and assisting on a few more. Snow is the only 10-goal rated player who will be participating in Santa Barbara’s high goal season, now through August 28. Joseph Stuart sent in three goals in the first chukker, making the first goal for the team. Escobar shot an additional 3 goals in.  Horatio Pascual, who was subbing for Patron Geoff Palmer, scored the 12th goal in the 6th chukker to put Antelope back in the lead. Joseph Stuart’s horse took a non-injury spill in the last chukker, stopping the clock but resuming play moments later. Then Windsor Capital’s Jeff Hall knocked in his team’s 12th goal tying the score in the last :21 seconds of the game and getting the crowd in the grandstands on their feet. Announcer Andy Smith voiced what the crowd was hoping for, a sudden death outcome, and warned the players “just don’t foul” several times. But that’s just what happened and the foul went against Windsor Capital, giving Antelope the opening to leap to the lead.

Winning teams on Friday July 15 will determine who plays in the finals
on Sunday, July 17 for the ROBERT SKENE TROPHY.
