BARBADOS POLO TEAM TO COMPETE AT OAK BROOK
Oak Brook, IL…A team from the Caribbean island of Barbados will make its inaugural appearance at the Oak Brook Polo Club on Sunday, July 31st, when it competes against a Chicago-area team in the Barbados vs. USA International Polo Challenge.
Players competing for Barbados include Captain Kent Cole, Philip Tempro, Richard Deane, Harry Manning and Luis Venezi. The team represents the newest polo development on the island, Lion’s Castle in St. Thomas. Lion’s Castle is one of four polo venues in Barbados, where polo has been played for more than 100 years.
The Oak Brook Polo Club was established in 1922 by Paul Butler, developer of the Village of Oak Brook. It was run by the Butler family until 1990 when operations were taken over by the Village of Oak Brook.
The Barbados vs. USA International Polo Challenge will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a match in the 16-goal USPA Midwest Cup at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate and are $10 adults; $5 senior citizens (65 and over). Children 12 and under and parking are free.
Entrance to the Oak Brook Polo Grounds is on 31st Street (Oak Brook Road) and Polo Drive, one-half mile west of York Road in Oak Brook. Food and beverages are available for purchase; dress is casual; and everyone is welcome. Spectators are encouraged is bring lawn chairs or a blanket for seating.
