July 24th, '05: Saratoga over Sara/Boca in talking phone book, 9-5
Sara/Boca had the early lead but couldn’t hold onto it as Saratoga captured The Talking Phone Book Cup at Saratoga Polo on Sunday with a final score of 9-5.
Sara/Boca actually started the match out with the lead as they received a goal due to the two teams’ uneven handicaps. Cuko Escapite, who scored all of Sara/Boca’s goals, capitalized on this with the first and only goal of the first chukker and a another in the third to keep Sara/Boca in a the lead until the end of the first half.
Tony Coppola got the scoring started for Saratoga with a marker in the second chukker, but it was Pelon Escapite, Cuko’s cousin, that put the victors in the lead with two goals each in the third and fourth chukkers. Cuko tried to counter with goals in the fifth and sixth, but Saratoga’s Dave Peters and Peter Lusardi responded with a score apiece in both of the final two chukkers.
The Regional USPA President’s Cup (an ongoing, league play-style tournament whose winner will go onto to play in the national President’s Cup) returns to Saratoga Polo on Wednesday, July 27 as Gene’s Cleaning/Tackeria square off against Buckleigh.
