Aug 7th, '05: MORE SUMMER CLASSIC CUP AT SARATOGA POLO
In more Summer Classic Cup action, Tupungato claimed victory over a combined Gene’s Cleaning/Sugar Maple team 9-7 at Saratoga Polo on Sunday.
Tupungato started the match with a goal due to a difference in handicap, but they didn’t need it thanks to Cuko Escapite; Escapite led all scorers with 7 markers (including the only 2 scores in the sixth and final chukker, giving his squad the win). James McLeavy also had a goal for the victors.
Gene’s Cleaning/Sugar Maple relied on more of a team effort for their offence, led by Brad Limehouse with 4 markers, but also getting 2 Gene Gass and 1 from Pelon Escapite, Cuko’s cousin.
The KPMG Best Playing Pony award went to Kaboom, Cuko Escapite’s mount in the fifth chukker.
John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted, presented awards to the evening’s competitors both on the field and off; in addition to the polo teams, prizes were giving to the winners of Saratoga Polo’s annual tailgate competition.
While Walsh’s Shamrock polo team claimed victory on Friday, they didn’t have such luck in an early match on Sunday as they fell to Tupungato 9-7 Sunday morning.
The next match at Saratoga Polo is Wednesday, August 10 at 5:30pm as the annual Hector and Susan Barrantes Memorial Cup gets underway as Bloomfield faces off against Sugar Maple. For more information, call 584-8108 or visit saratogapolo.com.
