Aug 13th, '05: GENE’S CLEANING/TACKERIA OVER SUGAR MAPLE IN BARRANTES ACTION AT SARATOGA POLO
Gene’s Cleaning/Tackeria claimed a victory in the Hector and Susan Barrantes Memorial Cup at Saratoga Polo on Saturday, but it wasn’t easy as Sugar Maple took them to overtime for a final score of 13-12.
While Gene’s Cleaning/Tackeria started the match a goal up on handicap, they didn’t hold onto the lead for long. It was a tough back and forth match, with neither team getting more than a couple of goals out in front before their opponent would respond. With such a close match, it was little surprise it went into overtime.
It was Juve Baez who broke the deadlock in sudden death, scoring just 23 seconds into the seventh chukker.
Pelon Escapite led Gene’s Cleaning/Tackeria with 6 markers. Baez and Tony Coppola each chipped in three tallies for the victors.
Sugar Maple was led by Brad Limehouse with 5 goals and Omar Sosa with 4. Peter Lusardi had two scores and AJ Famiano had one for the runners-up.
