Aug 19, '05: ESTRELLA CAPTURES DAVID N. DEUTSCH & COMPANY CUP, ADVANCES TO BARRANTES FINAL AT SARATOGA POLO
A late rally wasn’t enough for Sugar Maple as Estrella triumphed to capture the Seventh Annual David N. Deutsch & Company Cup at Saratoga Polo on Friday with a final score of 10-8. The win also advanced them to the finals of the Hector and Susan Barrantes Memorial Cup Tournament on Sunday.
Estrella relied on a big early lead to propel them to the win. They started off strong, with Ricky Bostwick scoring all 4 of his goals in the first half. Another two scores from Sebastian Bonorino to put Estrella in front 6-2 at the end of the first half.
Mostly silent for the first half, Sugar Maple came out swinging in the second. Brad Limehouse scored 4 of his 5 markers and Omar Sosa 2 of his 3 in the second half to bring Sugar Maple back within striking distance.
While Sugar Maple had knocked Estrella’s 4 goal lead down to one more than once in the fourth and fifth chukkers, Bonorino and Agusto Gomez each had a tally apiece in the fifth and sixth to put the victors up by 2 by the final horn.
