THE TRIPLE CROWN OF POLO

(Santa Barbara) - Only a week away, it’s the final turn of the Triple Crown of Polo™ (TCP) here at Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club on Sunday, August 28 with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at 3300 Via Real in Carpinteria.  The three polo clubs chosen for the TCP – Sarasota Polo Club in Sarasota, Florida; Las Colinas Polo Club in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas and finally, Santa Barbara – for the Bombardier PACIFIC COAST OPEN (PCO).

The PCO has been in tournament play since August 7, with six teams competing for the prestigious title. The showcase championship game of this prestigious tournament next Sunday will decide which four players will forever have their names engraved on the 100 year-old PCO trophy. 

David McLane, president of the Triple Crown of Polo said, “We selected the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club because it is one of the oldest, most beautiful and competitive polo club’s in the nation. By being nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountain Foothills and the Pacific Ocean, the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet club is truly a jewel of the American Riviera. It’s simply a winning combination.”  ESPN has signed a multi-year agreement to televise the TCP reaching a worldwide audience of upwards to 300 million households in 203 countries in twelve languages to make this the most watched polo event in the history of the sport of kings. McLane continued, “The TCP events will be filmed for television distribution next year. This year is a run-through for planning and logistics for this national multi-city sporting event.”

From celebrities to royalty, CEO’s and influential business leaders, both the polo players and spectators are among the most affluent and successful sports fans in the world. In a culture that is fascinated by the lifestyles of the wealthy and famous, millions of Americans and fans worldwide will be tuning in to catch an inside glimpse of the world surrounding this alluring sport in 2006.

The Triple Crown of Polo’s events will result in three one-hour television shows, consisting of human interest, lifestyle and personal drama with game action from the TCP championship tournaments.
