Aug 24th, '05: BALLSTON SPA CAPTURES YLVISAKER CUP IN OT
Ballston Spa were the big winners on Wednesday at Saratoga Polo as they triumphed over Estrella 10-9.
Ballston Spa got in front quick with a 2-goal handicap and the first goal of the match from Dave Peters, but other than a marker from Pelon Escaptie in the third chukker, they were scoreless in the first half. A goal each from George Hearst, Agusto Romaro and Ricky Bostwick and 3 from Sebastian Bonorino put Estrella up front by 2 at the half.
Both teams were scoreless in the fourth chukker. Bonorino put three more on the board in the last two chukkers to keep Estrella in the thick of it, but Ballston Spa really came alive in the fourth and fifth. Escapite had another tally in the fifth, but it was Juve Baez who got his team into overtime with 2 in the fifth and the last two of regulation to send Estrella into sudden death.
Overtime was deadlocked until Escapite put away the game winner with 3:27 left in the seventh chukker.
