Final Game Wickliffe defeated Columbus 5 - 4
Consolation Game -Glencoe defeated Warhorse 2 - 1
The Lexington Polo Club’s Women’s Tournament was held on Labor Day weekend at the Kentucky Horse Park. Four strong teams from Lexington, Louisville, and Columbus, OH entered the event.
On Saturday, September 3, Glencoe met Columbus on the Horse Park’s John Henry field. And although Glencoe lost, they played extremely well against an underrated and more experienced Columbus.
On that same evening, Warhorse fell to Wickliffe in an exciting match. After a tied score at half time, Jolie Liston scored twice in the third and once in the fourth chukker that Warhorse just could not match.
On Sunday, Glencoe defeated Warhorse 2 1 in a surprising upset in the consolation game held on Lexington Polo’s #1 field, the Man O’ War field.
The final game, also held on Sunday on Man O’ War, was a terrific challenge for Wickliffe as Columbus was afforded three goals to start. It was looking grim for Wickliffe at the end of the third chukker when the score was 4 2. But Kymberly "Lavvy" von Stade scored twice in the last chukker to even the score. Overtime was inevitable as the 30 second horn blew. But Columbus’ defense could not catch Jolie Liston as she snatched the ball and tore down the field in the last few seconds to score and win for Wickliffe, 5 4.
Jorge Vasquez, Luis Ansola, Omar Diaz, Hoppy Henton, and Rob Maclin rotated as referees and umpires.
