Isla Carroll-International Polo Club Eliminated From Qualifying Tournament in Argentina - WELLINGTON, FL Seven-goaler Luke Tomlinson of England scored six goals to lead Beaufort over Isla Carroll-International Polo Club Palm Beach 12-11 Monday in the qualifying tournament for the prestigious Argentine Open in Buenos Aires. The loss eliminated Isla Carroll-International Polo Club Palm Beach, which fell to 1-2 with one game remaining.
With the victory, Beaufort (3-1) joined El Metejon (3-0 with one game remaining) as the teams with the best records from the five-team tournament to qualify for the Hurlingham Open and Argentine Open.
Eight-goaler Silvestre Donovan of Argentina led Isla Carroll-International Polo Club Palm Beach with four goals while Toto Collardin added two goals. Seven-goalers Sugar Erskine of South Africa and Gaston Laulhe of Argentina scored two goals apiece for Isla Carroll-International Polo Club Palm Beach (1-2).
Isla Carroll-International Polo Club Palm Beach led 8-7 after the fourth chukker before Beaufort rallied to take the lead 11-9 going into the final chukker.
This is the third year International Polo Club owner John Goodman has sponsored a high-goal team in Argentina. Last year’s team, led by Erskine and American 10-goaler Adam Snow, qualified for both the Argentine Open and the Hurlingham Open.
Entering its third season, International Polo Club Palm Beach is already acknowledged as the premier high-goal polo club in the United States. The 2006 high-goal season begins Sunday, January 15 and continues through Sunday, April 23, highlighted by the Stanford Financial Group U.S. Open Polo Championship. At least 20 teams are expected to participate in the 2006 season.
