WELLINGTON, FL At least six new teams are expected to play in the high-goal season at International Polo Club Palm Beach, bringing the total to at least 20, according to IPC Polo Manager Jimmy Newman.
Among the teams will be New Bridge, with patron Russ McCall and 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso, generally acknowledged as the best player in the world, and Reata, with patron Mike Micallef and the newest 10-goaler, Agustin Merlos.
Other new teams for the 22-goal season include TechnoMarine, with patron Frank Dubarry and led by 9-goaler Adam Snow, and Audi, with patron Marc Ganzi and 8-goaler Hector Galindo.
New teams for the 26-goal season include BTA, with patron Kelly Beal and 10-goaler Mike Azzaro, and two teams sponsored by Jedi, with sponsor Erich Koch and his son, Torsten as patrons. Ten-goaler Marcos Heguy will lead Jedi and 9-goaler Pablo MacDonough will be on Jedi II.
Ten of the 11 10-goalers will be playing in the five high-goal tournaments at International Polo Club in 2006, distinguishing the club as the best in the United States in terms of talent, depth and competitiveness.
Among the world’s top players expected to play during the 22-goal and 26-goal seasons are 10-goalers Mariano Aguerre, Javier Novillo Astrada, Miguel Novillo Astrada, Mike Azzaro, Adolfo Cambiaso, Carlos Gracida, Marcos Heguy and the Merlos brothers Agustin, Pite and Sebastian as well as 9-goalers Eduardo Novillo Astrada, Lucas Criado, Paco de Narvaez, Memo Gracida, Bautista Heguy, Eduardo Heguy, Matias Magrini, Lucas Monteverde, Gonzalito and Facundo Pieres and Adam Snow.
International Polo Club Palm Beach opens its third high-goal polo season on Sunday, January 15 at 3 p.m. with an opening-round match of the 22-goal Joe Barry Cup. International Polo Club Palm Beach will host five high-goal tournaments over 15 weeks, including three 26-goal events, the highest-rated tourneys in the United States. The 26-goal tournaments are the Hall of Fame Cup, the C.V. Whitney Cup and the U.S. Open Championship. Peter Brant’s White Birch won all three events in 2005.

The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased at the gate on the day of the game.
