White beats Blue
The 17th annual Ladies polo tournament was a very exciting game played initially in slightly slippery conditions after an overnight shower of rain. White were quick to start when Rowena Murray (Kenya) scored almost from the throw in and then Kristy Outhier (USA) followed up to give the White a 2-0 lead at the end of the first chukka.
Early in the second chukka Blue got on track when Sherri-Lyn Hensman (Zimbabwe) scored and the score remained at 2-1 into third. Blue could have tied up early in the third chukka when Lesley Fong Yee missed a 40 yard penalty.
The game improved as the field dried out and the ladies got more comfortable with the surface which resulted in more speed and excitement for the on looking crowd.
In the fourth chukka Emma Tomlinson converted a 10 yard penalty to give whites a 3-1 lead. Despite a number of near misses through the remainder of chukka’s four and five the score ended up at 3-1.
Most valuable player of the game was Emma Tomlinson from the UK and best playing pony was Ramadan owned by Dr. John Masterton and ridden by Rowena Murray.
