WELLINGTON, FL (March 5, 2006) – Adolfo Cambiaso cemented his claim as the best player in the world, scoring six goals to lead New Bridge La Dolfina over Isla Carroll 13-5 in the 26-goal Hall of Fame Cup championship game Sunday on Stanford Field at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

It was New Bridge La Dolfina’s 10th consecutive victory and second championship crown of the season. They had won the 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup two weeks ago.

“We played very well,” said Cambiaso, who was named the MVP and received the award from Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. “I was surprised how good our team played. We improved every day. It’s great to win two tournaments. It was a good season for us.”

This was Cambiaso’s final game of the 2006 winter season as he left for Argentina late Sunday night to compete in tournaments in Buenos Aires.

“They played better than us,” said 9-goaler Eduardo Heguy of Isla Carroll. “Adolfito was unstoppable. This was our third game in six days and our horses were a little bit flat. To play against Adolfito, your horses have to be 100 percent and you have to have your best day.”

New Bridge scored the first two goals of the game and never trailed, increasing the margin to 6-2 at halftime and 10-4 heading into the final chukker.

“Our horses were the best,” said 9-goaler Matias Magrini of New Bridge La Dolfina, who finished with four goals. “They improved game by game. Their horses are just starting to get in shape.”

This was New Bridge La Dolfina’s 13th game of the season and Isla Carroll’s third game.

“I felt we never got started,” said Isla Carroll patron John Goodman. “Those guys are good, they’re tough to play against and you can’t make mistakes against a team like that.”

This was Russ McCall’s first season competing at International Polo Club and the New Bridge La Dolfina patron

“We were well organized and that’s mostly due to Matias (Magrini) and Adolfo,” said McCall. “They’re awesome players. I’m a participant. I was just lucky to get on the same team.”
“Russ played a superb game and that helped us,” added Magrini. “John (Goodman) couldn’t play the way he wanted. Russ deserves every win. Whatever we asked him to do, he does.”

Sugar Erskine led Isla Carroll (2-1) with three goals and Eduardo Heguy finished with two goals. Erskine missed the final chukker with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Guille Aguero. Erskine is expected to recover in the next several days.

The Hall of Fame Cup tournament is named in honor of the National Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame, a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization dedicated to the preservation of the history and tradition of the sport of polo. The Museum houses an extensive collection of historic documents and treasures that include important trophies, artifacts, books, works of art and other memorabilia. The Hall of Fame, located in Lake Worth, Florida, was created to honor the heroes of the sport.

The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased at the gate on the day of the game.
