Brandywine Youth Polo Plays First Fall Interscholastic Games
(Toughkenamon, PA) Brandywine Youth Polo Inc. is enjoying its first fall season of interscholastic games. After spending the summer practicing and thanks to the continued support of Brandywine Polo and Dixon Stroud, the recently formed polo team has hosted teams including Work To Ride/Cowtown, Kelly and Trevor Wells with Maryland Youth Polo and Valley Forge Military Academy.
Brandywine Youth Polo’s Boys Team has traveled twice to Valley Forge Military Academy where they were hosted by Rick Hosepian, VFM’s new polo coach. The record stands at one game a piece.
On November 4th, Brandywine Youth Polo’s boys and girls teams took to the road. They played Garrison Forest School and BYP’s team of Juan Lynch, Jacob Brown, Will DeMarino and Nick Baldo were taught some of the finer points of playing in a small arena. Garrison’s Ali Hoffman scored 6 goals, Sybil Greenhalgh scored 3 goals and Liz Adams and Emily Dameron both weighed in at two goals each. BYP lost to Garrison 13-7 in a very good game and the boys look forward to a rematch.
From Maryland, BYP traveled to the University of Virginia, where they were hosted by Lou Lopez and the UVA Interscholastic A and B teams. On Sunday afternoon, two very competitive and evenly matched games were played with the BYP A Team of Juan, Jacob, Will and Nick winning a hard fought game (11-10) on a two point shot with six seconds left in the game. The BYP B team consisting of Tony Baldo, Emma Vander Terrel, Devin Cox and Ava Green played the Virginia team to a 7-7 tie.
