Mariano Aguerre Leads White Birch Over Goshen; Skeeterville Wins
In Ylvisaker Cup Action Saturday at International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, FL – Ten-goaler Mariano Aguerre scored eight goals as perennial powerhouse White Birch rallied past Goshen 15-13 in the 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup polo tournament Saturday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

In other action, 8-goaler Julio Arellano scored nine goals to lead Skeeterville over San Saba 14-7 and into sole possession of first place in Division III.

Goshen held its own against White Birch, taking an 11-10 lead with 4:57 left in the fifth chukker on a breakaway by 9-goaler Pancho Bensadon after he stole the ball from Aguerre. On the ensuing bowl-in, White Birch’s Del Walton tied the game at 11-11, the seventh and final tie.

White Birch took control at 13-11 as Aguerre converted a 60-yard penalty shot with 2:47 left and added another goal with 1:05 remaining in the fifth chukker.

Bensadon cut the margin to 13-12 with 4:17 left in the game but Goshen could not tie the game as 8-goaler Sugar Erskine missed an 80-yard forehand with 2:40 remaining.

Patron Peter Brant made a 15-yard penalty shot with 1:58 left and Walton added another goal with 54 seconds remaining to give White Birch a 15-12 lead. Bensadon nailed a back shot with 15 seconds left for the final goal.

Walton finished with four goals, Brant scored two and Tomas Franco added one for White Birch (1-1).

Bensadon finished with nine goals and Erskine three goals for Goshen (0-2), which received one goal to start the game because of the handicap difference. Patron Irvin Abell and Stewart Armstrong did not score.

San Saba cut the margin to 9-6 midway through the fourth chukker but did not get any closer the rest of the match.

Owen Rinehart added three goals, two in the sixth chukker, for Skeeterville (2-0) while Stevie Orthwein and patron Skeeter Johnston scored one goal apiece.

Tommy Lee Jones, Hector Galindo and Toto Collardin scored two goals each for San Saba (1-1) while Gaston Von Wernich added one.
