May 18, '05: Mickey Tarnopol passed away a few days ago at the age of 68. Mickey was an Vice-Chairman at Bear, Sterns & Co. and was the patron of the Revlon polo team. Mickey is survived by his two daughters, Lisa and Lori and his wife Lynne.
Mickey started playing polo when he was 42 years old and retired from polo at the age of 61. Tarnopol was first introduced to polo when he was a boy working at a stable in Long Island, NY. A neighbor took him to some polo matches at Westbury, L.I. where he became a hot walker for players who wanted their horses cooled down after playing a game.
Mickey graduated from University Pennsylvania . Shortly after his graduation he married Lynne and started a family and a very successful career in investment banking. It wasn't until years later that he saw a polo match at West Palm Beach Polo Club while attending a show jumping event his daughter Lisa was participating in. His interest in polo sparked and soon after he was playing polo. Mickey's polo team, Revlon, won almost every major high-goal tournament with the exception of the U.S. Open.
On the sad side we lost a true gentleman and in general a very nice man by the name of Mickey Tarnopol. Mickey was as nice a man and always a sportsman and a gentleman last week to the big C. He was the Patron of The Revlon team, which was one of the leaders in corporate sponsors back East. Mickey had a great team and concept of the game. He liked to be nice and he was. Our sympathy to his family from West Coast Polo. --Steve Crowder.
